Signed and dated in oil, lower left recto.Ex-collection private collection, New York.Luhrs (1897-1964) worked as an illustrator for Cosmopolitan magazine and simultaneously made a career as a portrait and genre scene painter. He was also the founder of the Henry Luhrs Sea Skiff Company (his grandfather had been a boat builder and owned a chandlery in New York during the mid-1800s). By the time Luhrs' sons had joined the boat business, their company had grown to produce over 1200 boats per year; Luhrs ultimately retired and resumed painting again in his later years.
