Footnote: Large detailed map of Japan’s coast from Edo (Tokyo) to Ezo (Hokkaido). In Edo Bay are five ships representing Commodore Perry’s fleet entering the harbor on July 8th, 1853. Various marine and land routes with distance references are also plotted on the map. together with: Amerika Sen Torai Ikken Ni Tsuki. 20-page contemporary manuscript report relating news of Perry’s arrival and the events surrounding it. 10½x7¾ inches, stitched with two cords; dated July 1853.
