Description
Artist or author: ANDY WARHOL (1928-1987)
Title:
The Velvet Underground & Nico.
Description:
Gatefold album, inner sleeve and LP. 317x317 mm, 12½x12½ inches, closed. 1967.

Early pressing and issue signed on front cover by Lou Reed, John Cale, Sterling Morrison, and Maureen Tucker, additionally inscribed by Reed ("To Sal / the very Best!") and Tucker ("To Sal from Moe Tucker"). Banana sticker present, likely peeled and re-affixed. Promotional West Coast mono pressing (V-5008, V/5008), with the "Torso Cover," white and black, "Not for Sale," Verve Records label and original Verve inner sleeve.

Produced by Andy Warhol, The Velvet Underground and Nico is the band's first album, recorded the previous year when they were touring with Warhol's Exploding Plastic Inevitable tour. Warhol's cover, with a removable sticker over a banana, was geared as a selling point, turning the album into a work of art.
