Description: WRITTEN DURING THE U.S. OCCUPATION OF JAPAN (WORLD WAR II.) MACARTHUR, DOUGLAS. Two items: Photograph dated and Signed * Typed Letter Signed. The photograph, bust portrait showing him in 5-star general's uniform. Signed in the image, lower right. Inscription above signature, "To E.A. Burbank," in unknown hand. 10x8 inches. The letter, to magazine publisher Herbert Hamlin, sending inscribed photographs. ½ page, 4to, "Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers" stationery; faint toning at all edges. – Tokyo, 16 February 1949
Footnote: ". . . [Y]our fine note . . . informed me of the valued friends and supporters I have in Mr. Burbank and Mrs. Parrott. I am sending a photograph inscribed to each . . . with warm personal regard of a soldier whose earliest recollections are of the Indian Plains." Elbridge Ayer Burbank (1858-1949) was an American artist whose works featured Native Americans and their surroundings.
